| This video presents research performed by Steven J Henderson and Steven K Feiner at Columbia University's Computer Graphics and User Interfaces Lab (graphics.cs.columbia.edu It accompanied a paper given at IEEE ISMAR 2011 (www.ismar.net that received the ISMAR 2011 Best Science and Technology Student Paper Award. All material in the video is captured live through optical-see-through or video-see-through headworn displays, as indicated in the video. (Video captured through the NVIS nVisor ST60 optical-see-through display was recorded using a camera embedded in the eyesocket of a fiberglas head wearing the display.) The user's head and the task objects were tracked using a NaturalPoint OptiTrack optical tracking system. Procedural tasks are common to many domains, ranging from maintenance and repair, to medicine, to the arts. We developed a prototype augmented reality (AR) user interface designed to assist users in the relatively under-explored psychomotor phase of procedural tasks. In this phase, the user begins physical manipulations, and thus alters aspects of the underlying task environment. Our prototype tracks the user and multiple components in a typical maintenance assembly task, and provides dynamic, prescriptive, overlaid instructions on a stereoscopic, optical-see-through, head-worn display, in response to the user's ongoing activity. A user study shows participants were able to complete psychomotor aspects of the assembly task significantly faster and with ... | The main contribution of this paper is to realize computer generated augmented flavors and establish a method to integrate gustatory information into computer human interactions. There are several reasons for the scarcity of research on gustatory information. One reason is that taste sensations are affected by a number of factors, such as vision, olfaction and memories. This produces a complex cognition mechanism for a user's gustatory sensation, and makes it difficult to build up a gustatory display which produces a specific taste on demand. Our hypothesis is that the complexity of gustatory sensation can be applied to the realization of a "Pseudo-gustatory" display that presents the desired flavors by means of a cross-modal effect elicited by visual and olfactory augmented reality. We propose the Edible Marker system, which can detect the state [number/shape/6-degree-offreedom (DOF) coordinate] of each piece of bitten or divided food in real time, and the "Pseudo-gustation" method to change the perceived taste of food by changing its appearance and scent. We construct "MetaCookie+" as an implementation and discuss its validity through an exploratory study. | This is The Final Part in a Four Part Series: www.youtube.com Here at Destination Beauty, our FREE service is dedicated to bringing you as much information as possible about having plastic surgery overseas in Thailand. What are the answers to your questions? What's the process like? What happens after you arrive? What's the consultation like? Over time we hope to answer as many of your questions as possible up front to make sure you're comfortable even before we work with you :) In this final episode, our Swedish client Anna, who had stayed in Thailand for a full month, decided to come back for a one month checkup with Dr. Pitch since she was in town. She was gracious enough to allow us to film this final one-month follow-up with Dr. Pitch - and Dr. Pitch has been gracious enough to allow us to film as he performs the check-up. We appreciate their help! Before this video was taken, Anna had already spoken with our staff over time and gotten answers to a number of her questions. She'd already submitted a medical questionnaire, gone through her free at-home consultation with Dr. Pitch and booked her travel and her procedure. And, in the last episode, she had gone through her one-week checkup with Dr. Pitch, which we filmed. What you're seeing in today's episode is Anna one month after having surgery under the care of Dr. Pitch. She's gone on to vacation in Thailand for another month and then returned for a final follow-up with Dr. Pitch to check on things. He's making sure ... | The coming explosion of immersive digital technology, combined with recent progress in unlocking how the mind works, will soon revolutionize our lives in ways only science fiction has imagined. In Infinite Reality, Jeremy Bailenson (Stanford University) and Jim Blascovich (University of California, Santa Barbara)—two of virtual reality's pioneering authorities whose pathbreaking research has mapped how our brain behaves in digital worlds—take us on a mind-bending journey through the virtual universe. Infinite Reality explores what emerging computer technologies and their radical applications will mean for the future of human life and society. Along the way, Bailenson and Blascovich examine the timeless philosophical questions of the self and "reality" that arise through the digital experience; explain how virtual reality's latest and future forms—including immersive video games and social-networking sites—will soon be seamlessly integrated into our lives; show the many surprising practical applications of virtual reality, from education and medicine to sex and warfare; and probe further-off possibilities like "total personality downloads" that would allow your great-great-grandchildren to have a conversation with "you" a century or more after your death.
