| Thank you Bas for this wonderful gift! I will be having a lot of fun with this! I ordered an Laplink/Interlink parallel/serial cable from ebay so hopefully i should be able to interface with it soon. I have other means of doing so as i do not have a nother 5.25" floppy drive, nor a computer to use it. It appears that this machine should have 256K, but it reports only 192kb. Existing programs (like word perfect 5.1) on the harddrive report that they don't have enough memory. But the fact that they're on there makes me asume that they did indeed work before. I might have to open it up and investigate... but before that i'm going to make a full memory and harddrive dump. | |
| something i did last night. took the original wolf3d source code (Which is public domain now) and modified it so that it doesn't require a 286 processor anymore. you can see the results here. it's a bit slow, but that should have been expected. if you want to run wolf3d on your old 8086/8088, download my recompiled EXE of it: rubbermallet.org thats ONLY the executable. you must provide all the data files yourself. the game engine is in the public domain, however the data files are not and would be illegal for me to provide them to you. don't ask. your message will be deleted without reply. just throw this file in the same directory as the original WOLF3D.EXE and run it to play. | |
| An animation for a poem entitled "16-bit Intel 8088 Chip" by Charles Bukowski. The poem is not exactly true to form, as I cut it up into pieces to fit the timing needs for the animation, though the message behind it still remains the same. I interpreted the poem as highlighting the struggles we face with things not communicating perfectly with one another, and how no matter what happens, life still keeps going right on, with or without us paying attention. The struggle is noted in the boxing poster aesthetic, which I interpreted after studying various posters for both famous and obscure fights throughout the years. Made as a final project for my Motion Graphics I class. Created in Photoshop and After Effects. | |
